Daimler Truck and Volvo Group Sign Agreement
Daimler Truck, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz Türk, signed a joint venture agreement with Volvo Group aimed at developing a software-defined vehicle platform that will lead the transformation in the heavy commercial vehicle sector. The new company aims to set industry standards. The common goal set by Daimler Truck and Volvo Group through this agreement is to develop a truck operating system and offer the joint venture's brand-independent products to other commercial Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Additionally, Daimler Truck and Volvo Group will continue to compete and differentiate their product and service sales, including their own digital solutions.
In May of this year, Daimler Truck and Volvo Group announced their aim to establish a joint venture to develop a software-defined vehicle platform and a specialized truck operating system that will form the foundation for future commercial vehicles. As part of this, the two leading companies in the commercial vehicle sector signed a binding agreement for the joint venture. The agreement involves the establishment of a company that will be headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden. The software-defined vehicle platform to be developed through the joint venture will allow Daimler Truck and Volvo Group to provide independent digital vehicle functions in the products offered to potential customers in the future.
The joint venture will lead the digital transformation! Activities of the joint venture will include identifying and procuring centralized high-performance control units specifically designed for commercial vehicles that can process big data. The new company will develop an operating system and utilities that vehicle manufacturers can fundamentally use to develop distinct digital vehicle features. This initiative will separate software and hardware development cycles in the future, allowing customers to purchase and update digital applications wirelessly. Thus, customer efficiency and experience will significantly improve. The completion of this large-scale joint venture operation is expected in the first half of 2025, contingent upon obtaining all necessary regulatory approvals.
