Demand for Flash Memory to Surge 2.7 Times
Kioxia, a Japanese technology company, stated that it expects the demand for flash memory to increase by approximately 2.7 times over the next five years due to the surge in artificial intelligence. The chip manufacturer, affected by the downturn in the memory chip market, is preparing for a significant capacity expansion at its new factory located in Kitakami, Iwate Prefecture, north of Tokyo. Formerly known as Toshiba Memory, Kioxia had planned to commence production at the new factory last year but has postponed it until the autumn of 2025.
