Manufacturing Orders in Germany Surpass Expectations

Orders at German factories showed a stronger-than-expected increase in September. According to figures released by the Federal Statistical Office, manufacturing orders rose by 4.2% in September compared to the same month last year. Market expectations pointed to a 1.4% increase following a revision of data that showed a decrease from 5.8% to 5.4% in the previous month.

Excluding large-scale orders, new orders were 2.2% higher than the previous month. A less volatile three-month comparison indicates that total new orders increased by 4.2% in the third quarter of 2024 compared to the second quarter, while new orders excluding large-scale ones fell by 0.6%.

Domestic orders rose by 3.6%, while foreign orders increased by 4.4%. A year-on-year increase of 1.0% was recorded in orders.
