Greenzy Takes Its First Step into the Turkish Market in Collaboration with Türkiye İş Bankası

As the world rapidly approaches the carbon neutrality target set for the mid-21st century by the Paris Agreement signed by 195 countries, investments in renewable energy and initiatives focused on climate technologies have gained significance. In this context, Greenzy, a digital product developed by Aldogreen established in the Netherlands two years ago by Aldo Group, which operates in the automotive, tourism, industry, technology, and renewable energy sectors since 1969, has made its first entry into the Turkish market in collaboration with Türkiye İş Bankası (IS:ISATR). This product neutralizes the carbon emissions at the device level by regenerating the energy consumed by individuals' electronic devices at solar power plants.

Smartphones cause 5 kg of carbon emissions each year. Calculations indicate that the annual electricity consumption of smartphones is 10.4 kilowatt-hours, while that of smartwatches is 7 kilowatt-hours. The annual carbon emissions resulting from these consumption amounts were measured at 4.9 kilograms and 3.3 kilograms, respectively. The popularity of electric cars and scooters has also increased individual users' electricity consumption; in response, Greenzy has developed an innovative model for consumers looking to make sustainable choices.

Oytun Eren Şengül, Managing Partner of Aldogreen, stated that Greenzy allows the neutralization of carbon emissions arising from the daily electricity consumption of individuals' electronic devices. “Greenzy produces as much electricity as the annual electricity consumption of the device chosen by the user at solar power plants. In return, users receive a Green Energy Certificate for the device they wish to neutralize emissions for. These certificates are recorded on the blockchain, allowing users to access real-time data regarding the production of their allocated solar panel whenever they want,” he said.

Democratizing the carbon market Oytun Eren Şengül emphasized that through the digital Green Energy Certificate provided to users, Greenzy shares enough carbon certificates to neutralize device emissions. “In this respect, Greenzy also democratizes the carbon market. If more electricity is produced than the consumption being neutralized by solar energy, the carbon certificates are sold on the market. The revenue from these sales is used for tree planting. As the first product of Aldo Group's Netherlands-based technology company Aldogreen, Greenzy opens the door for every user to contribute to sustainability and green transformation by neutralizing a significant portion of individual energy consumption, while also creating a circular sustainability chain,” he added.

Launching in Turkey with İş Bankası (IS:ISCTR) Oytun Eren Şengül noted that Greenzy will meet users for the first time in Turkey in collaboration with Türkiye İş Bankası. He concluded his remarks by saying, “Türkiye İş Bankası, which stands by startups with its Workup Entrepreneurship Program and integrates sustainability practices into all its processes, is one of Greenzy’s main supporters. Through our collaboration with İş Bankası, Greenzy will be available to users in Turkey for the first time on the mobile branch İşCep. İşCep users can access the Greenzy platform from the Green Energy section within İşCep. Users of the 'Future Forest' initiative will be able to neutralize the carbon emissions from their electronic devices such as laptops, mobile phones, smartwatches, wireless headphones, electronic bicycles, e-scooters, and tablets by obtaining a Green Energy Certificate at discounts unique to them. İş Bankası users who convert their energy consumption into Green Energy Certificates will not only be able to track the solar energy produced with their contributions in real-time but also collect carbon points in the Future Forest, thereby contributing to tree planting through TEMA Foundation.”
