EU Discusses Imposing Sanctions on Chinese Firms Assisting Russia

The European Union has proposed sanctions against certain Chinese firms accused of assisting Russian companies in the development of drones used against Ukraine. According to documents reviewed by Bloomberg News, the European Commission, the EU's executive body, is also considering imposing additional restrictions on Russian oil tankers to prevent Moscow from circumventing existing sanctions. The proposals came as G7 foreign ministers gathered in Italy to pledge "appropriate measures" against China and other countries supporting Russia's war efforts in Ukraine. Any measures taken by the EU require the support of all 27 member states. Some of the firms suggested for sanctions are already subject to restrictions by the U.S. and the UK.
