TEPAV: Retail Confidence Continues Its Negative Trend
Foreks - The 178th issue of the TEPAV Retail Confidence Index (TEPE) has been published. Accordingly, the TEPAV Retail Confidence Index (TEPE) recorded a value of -11.5 points in October, reflecting a 5.5-point increase compared to the same period of the previous year and a 2.0-point increase from the previous month, indicating that retail confidence continued its negative trend in October.
The annual change in the TEPE value highlighted improvements in sales expectations for the next three months. On the other hand, a 1.6-point change indicating that the current stock level is below normal positively affected the index.
Sales expectations for the future have increased. The balance value of sales expectations for the next three months was -1.8 points in October 2024. Accordingly, sales expectations for the next three months increased by 10.9 points compared to the previous month and by 17.9 points compared to the same month of the previous year.
Assessments regarding the state of business are pessimistic. Evaluations regarding the state of business (compared to the same period last year) recorded a value of -30.5 points in October 2024, representing an increase of 1.8 points from September 2024 but a decrease of 8.9 points from October 2023.
Retail confidence declined in only one sector. When examining retail confidence by sub-sectors in October 2024, changes in the "electrical household appliances, radios and televisions," "furniture, lighting equipment and household products," "textiles, ready-to-wear and footwear," and "motor vehicles" sectors were above average compared to the same period last year, while the "other (fuel station, pharmacy, perfumery, hardware store, housewares, stationery, etc.)," "food, beverage and tobacco products," and "grocery, supermarket and hypermarket selling multiple types of products" sectors were below average.
Central Anatolia is the region where retail confidence decreased the most. When analyzing retail confidence by regions, in October 2024, changes in the Northeast Anatolia, Central Anatolia, Eastern Black Sea, Southeastern Anatolia, Eastern Marmara, and Western Anatolia regions were above average, while the Mediterranean, Istanbul, Aegean, Western Marmara, Western Black Sea, and Central Anatolia regions were below average.
