Steel Exporters Association to Strengthen Presence in Romania

Foreks - The Steel Exporters' Association (ÇİB) organized a Sectoral Trade Delegation for fasteners in Bucharest, Romania, from November 12 to 14, 2024, aiming to increase its presence in the market, strengthen its foothold, and establish new collaborations. Eleven Turkish companies that participated in the delegation held bilateral meetings with over 100 Romanian importing firms.

The opening speech of the Romania Fasteners Sectoral Trade Delegation, chaired by ÇİB Board Member Mustafa Tecdelioğlu, was delivered by the Ambassador of Romania, Özgür Kıvanç Altan. The presentation on the Romanian market by Hasan Oktay Duygun, Chief Commercial Attaché in Bucharest, along with speeches from Sinan Topuk, President of the Fasteners Industrialists and Businesspeople Association (BESİAD), and Ufuk Tandoğan, President of the Romanian Turkish Businesspeople Association (TİAD), addressed opportunities to increase exports in the steel sector, with contributions from Mehmet Naci Akdoğan, Commercial Attaché in Bucharest, Dr. A. Samet Damar, Branch Chief of ÇİB, among others.

ÇİB Board Member Mustafa Tecdelioğlu noted that the Turkish companies participating in the delegation had very positive meetings with 100 importing firms. He expressed the belief that the organized delegation would help Turkish companies establish a stronger presence in the Romanian market and further deepen commercial relations between the two countries.

ROMANIA AS THE LARGEST EXPORT MARKET FOR STEEL

Tecdelioğlu stated that the steel sector concluded the previous year with $14.9 billion in exports, accounting for 6.7% of total exports. "Romania is our most important market for steel exports. From January to October, the sector achieved a total export of $13.46 billion, of which $1.1 billion was to Romania. This represents a 51.9% increase compared to the same period last year, making it the country we export the most to. We can clearly see the positive results of the trade delegation we conducted to Romania last year. However, despite the visible increase in general steel exports, we do not observe this positive trend in fasteners, which are the highest value-added steel products. Today, with our Romania Fasteners Trade Delegation, we aim to change this situation and continue our efforts to ensure that the increase in our exports to Romania continues in the future," he said.

Tecdelioğlu highlighted that sectoral trade delegations enable targeted meetings and very productive discussions, stating, "Such trade delegations are of great importance to strengthen our sector's presence in the global arena and increase our export volume. As ÇİB, we will continue to support and organize similar initiatives to enable our members to be more effective and competitive in international markets."
