Wind Turbine Manufacturer ENERCON Plans to Install an Additional 2,500 MW in Turkey
Foreks - ENERCON continues to play a pioneering role in the proliferation of onshore wind energy in Turkey. At the German-Turkish Energy Forum held in Berlin yesterday, wind turbine manufacturer ENERCON signed a letter of intent with Turkish energy companies Iş Enerji and Polat Enerji for the establishment of a new onshore capacity of 2,500 MW. In the Memorandum of Understanding signed in the presence of German Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck and Turkish Minister of Energy Alparslan Bayraktar, the partners agreed to jointly execute land projects with a total capacity of 2,500 MW in Turkey and neighboring countries within the next five years. As part of this collaboration, ENERCON will supply turbine technology, install it, and provide long-term service for the constructed wind farms. The planned collaboration will utilize ENERCON's new flagship model, the E-175 EP5. With a rotor diameter of 175 meters and a nominal power of 6.0 - 7.0 MW, this turbine type is currently one of the most powerful and efficient onshore turbines in Europe. The scope of delivery for the collaboration includes at least 350 wind turbines. Regarding the signed letter of intent, ENERCON CEO Udo Bauer stated, "ENERCON is ready to continue its contribution to the energy transformation in Turkey. I look forward to the collaboration with our partners Iş Enerji and Polat Enerji, which represents a new milestone in onshore expansion in Turkey. The political support for renewables in Turkey is also exemplary. Politicians rightly see onshore wind as a cornerstone of a sustainable energy system in the country." Polat Enerji Board Member Neşet Özgür Cireli mentioned, "ENERCON wind turbines have proven to be very reliable and robust in our ongoing projects. Our current installed capacity is over 740 MW, and we have additional wind farm projects with a capacity of 130 MW either in construction or development stages. We are pleased to advance our commitment to wind energy both in Turkey and in other countries where Polat Energy Europe invests and develops projects, in collaboration with ENERCON." Iş Enerji CEO and Polat Enerji Board Member Kayahan Karadaş noted, "As of today, Enercon is our main supplier, and we see this agreement as the first step of a new beginning."
