Two Significant Investments Completed at Eti Bakır's Samsun Smelting and Electrolysis Plant

Foreks - Eti Bakır has implemented significant investments at its Samsun Refining and Electrolysis Plant. The company has started to produce the balls used in the grinding stage of the ore at its own facility, and it has also modernized the production lines.

As the only company in Turkey capable of producing from ore to final product, Eti Bakır's Samsun Refining and Electrolysis Plant continues to support the Turkish economy with its value-added production. In July, the plant conducted a planned shutdown for modernization and general maintenance, during which the production lines were modernized. With the modernization investment, the plant increased its capacity by 15%, fulfilling the capacity increase requirement outlined in the Elazığ Copper Mine tender specifications. The Samsun facility has also renewed all gas lines as part of the project and achieved an additional 8% reduction in emission values, which are currently below the legal limits. The facility, which has enhanced energy efficiency, resumed production as of September.

$8 MILLION BALL PRODUCTION INVESTMENT Within the Eti Bakır Samsun Refining and Electrolysis Plant, an $8 million investment has brought the Ball Production Facility to life, where the production of balls used in the grinding of the ore, a crucial process for the separation of ore, has commenced. The Ball Production Facility has an annual production capacity of 50,000 tons with 9 different diameters for various mining sectors and will eliminate the $10 million annual ball import currently used in Eti Bakır’s facilities located in different cities. The facility has the capacity to serve other mining companies both domestically and internationally, thereby addressing a significant import line for the country while also exporting balls. The plant operates with a closed water system, ensuring no emissions are released. The necessary raw materials for the balls are obtained from local firms, and the facility employs 60 workers.

WILL OPERATE EFFICIENTLY FOR 10 YEARS Ali Yılmaz, the Director of Eti Bakır Samsun Refining and Electrolysis Plant, noted that the investments made without interruption have increased their support to the country and regional economy, stating, "We completed the planned maintenance shutdown in July in 75 days as intended. While we increased our capacity with simultaneous significant investments, we also further reduced our emission values. With the completed planned maintenance shutdown and modernization, we aim to operate efficiently for 10 years." Yılmaz mentioned that by sourcing the necessary raw materials for the Ball Production Facility from local firms, they have provided further significant support for regional development, emphasizing their continued efforts to enhance the use of domestic products and production processes in mining production.
