Uniper repaid the German government €2.6 billion in state aid.

Uniper, the energy company, made a repayment of approximately €2.6 billion ($2.9 billion) to the Federal Republic of Germany, fulfilling the repayment obligations set in the EU state aid decision dated December 20, 2022, and the framework agreement signed between the German government and Uniper on December 19, 2022. This repayment was confirmed in the company's consolidated financial statements for 2024 and was fully completed by March 11, 2025.

The European Commission approved state aid for Uniper in December 2022, contingent upon certain conditions. As part of this, the German government provided around €13.5 billion ($15 billion) in financial resources through capital increases during the 2022 fiscal year. This support was given to assist Uniper, which faced financial difficulties due to high-cost gas procurement from sources outside of Russia amid supply disruptions. Financial backing ensured Uniper could meet its supply obligations and reliably deliver gas to municipal services and German industry.
