FAA Requests Inspection for Critical Component of Boeing 787 Dreamliner

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed a directive requiring the inspection of a critical structural component located at the front of Boeing Co.'s 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Released on Thursday, the proposal was a response to numerous reports of discrepancies such as excessive gaps and pull during the assembly and installation of the forward pressure bulkhead.

Under the FAA's proposed order, the forward pressure bulkhead, which plays a vital role in maintaining cabin pressure, will be subject to both internal and external inspections. Previously, Boeing had advised operators to conduct visual inspections of the forward pressure bulkhead following a comprehensive review of the structural integrity of its flagship wide-body aircraft. The company also noted that it had engaged with regulatory bodies on this matter during that time.
