The UK Office for National Statistics has suspended inflation data due to a methodological issue.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS), known for its labor market data in the UK, has suspended the publication of factory gate inflation figures and similar data related to the services sector. This decision came after a problem was identified in the methodology used for these datasets. According to the ONS, this issue affects data dating back to 2008, with the most significant impact on annual producer price inflation rates observed in 2022 and 2023.
As a result, the release of the Producer Price Index (PPI) and Services Producer Price Index (SPPI) data, originally scheduled for March 26, has been postponed until the issue is resolved. The ONS plans to resume publishing these figures in the summer, although a specific date has yet to be confirmed. This development underscores the importance of accuracy in data collection and distribution, as the ONS is currently under review regarding the reliability of labor market data.
