Von der Leyen: EU leaders want the Commission to weaken certain regulations.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, stated after the European Council summit discussions in Brussels that EU leaders want the bloc's executive branch to begin weakening a series of different European regulations to help their sectors grow.

These remarks follow the Commission's introduction of a simplification package earlier this year aimed at reducing bureaucracy for companies reporting carbon emissions. Since then, policymakers have indicated that other EU laws, such as the General Data Protection Regulation, will also be weakened this year. "There is strong support not just for one, but for a whole Omnibus fleet," she said.
