Turkey's Minister of Industry and Technology, Mehmet Fatih Kacır, announced that the SOM-J cruise missile, developed by TÜBİTAK SAGE, successfully hit its target during its first test launch against a surface platform. In a social media post, Kacır emphasized the missile's capabilities, stating, “New capabilities have been added. Our SOM-J cruise missile successfully hit its target in the first test launch against a surface platform. SOM-J will serve as an effective force multiplier for the Turkish Armed Forces in modern warfare, enabling the neutralization of high-value targets from a long range.”
Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, President of the Presidency of Defense Industries, echoed Kacır's remarks, highlighting the importance of local engineering in developing this smart munition. He stated that SOM-J demonstrates the nation's determination and the progress made in the defense industry, ensuring stronger defense capabilities for the future. The SOM-J missile is designed for both land and surface targets, featuring advanced technology for precision strikes.
