Korean Air is nearing a $32.7 billion deal for Boeing aircraft and GE Aerospace engines, according to South Korea's Ministry of Industry. This agreement is expected to strengthen bilateral relations between the United States and South Korea. Last year, the airline announced its intention to order 20 Boeing 777-9 and 20 787-10 aircraft, with an option for 10 more. A memorandum of understanding was signed in July, and once finalized, the aircraft deal alone will be valued at $24.9 billion.

Additionally, the agreement includes the order of eight spare GE engines and an option for two more, alongside engine maintenance services, with this portion expected to be valued at $7.8 billion. South Korea's Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun is currently in Washington, marking his second visit in a month amidst global concerns over U.S. tariff plans affecting trade partners. Minister Ahn expressed that these agreements could pave the way for increased exchanges between the two countries, with the South Korean government actively supporting private sector collaboration.
