The EU is assessing a strong anti-coercion tool in the trade dispute with the US - Bloomberg

Investing.com — France is considering using its strongest countermeasures against the United States if Donald Trump unfairly employs tariffs to push for policy changes within the European Union (EU). According to Bloomberg's sources, this situation has arisen as a point of discussion.

This proposal positions France as part of a minority group that believes the anti-coercion tool, designed to retaliate against countries that use trade and economic measures coercively, should be an option within the EU. The U.S. is preparing to impose comprehensive tariffs on global partners, including the EU, on April 2. While Trump claims these taxes address unfair domestic regulations and non-tariff barriers like the EU's value-added tax (VAT), the EU defends the VAT as a fair and non-discriminatory tax applied equally to domestic and imported goods.
