Total greenhouse gas emissions reached 598.9 Mt CO2 equivalent in 2023.

According to the Foreks greenhouse gas inventory results, total greenhouse gas emissions for 2023 reached 598.9 million tons (Mt) CO2 equivalent, marking a 6.9% increase compared to the previous year. Per capita emissions were calculated as 4.1 tons CO2 equivalent in 1990, 6.6 tons in 2022, and 7.0 tons in 2023.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) reports that the energy sector leads in emissions by sector, accounting for 73.8% of total emissions in 2023. Agriculture follows with 12.0%, industrial processes and product use at 11.8%, and waste at 2.3%. Energy sector emissions increased by 208.8% since 1990 and by 10.3% from the previous year, totaling 442.2 Mt CO2 equivalent.
