The Competition Authority has launched an investigation into Opet.

A probe has been launched against Foreks - Opet for allegedly violating Law No. 4054 on the Protection of Competition through agreements made with its dealers. According to a statement from the Competition Authority, preliminary investigations revealed that while the dealership agreements between OPET and its dealers were in effect, the lease rights established in favor of OPET on the land where dealership activities take place were extended, thereby structuring the vertical relationship between the dealer and OPET to exceed five years.

The statement continued: "As is known, all contracts, including fuel dealership agreements and usufruct agreements affecting the duration of the non-compete obligation in these contracts, are considered a single agreement. Through these contracts, the vertical relationship between the distributor and the dealer can benefit from the Group Exemption Notification for a maximum of five years. Distributors cannot force their dealers to enter into agreements longer than five years through these contracts. In this context, the investigation will examine whether OPET violated the law through vertical agreements."
