Europe is ready to go to war with the US over trade if necessary.
Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stated that Europe is prepared to fight for trade with the U.S. if necessary. "We clearly do not want a trade war. However, if we must fight, we are ready," Sanchez said, emphasizing discussions with European neighbors for a "proportional, smart, and united" response to the Trump administration's threats of high tariffs on European goods imported to the U.S.
Earlier this month, tariffs on steel and aluminum imported from Europe came into effect in the U.S., with Trump also promising similar tariffs on other sectors, including automobiles. Sanchez mentioned that Spain is developing a national plan to support sectors negatively affected by trade tariffs, asserting, "Europe is a power and will respond as a power."
