MARKET OVERVIEW - Copper prices fell amid news suggesting that U.S. tariffs could be possible in the coming weeks.

Foreks - Basic metal prices are mixed today. Three-month copper on the LME fell by 1.7% to $9,941 per ton, while three-month aluminum remained stable at $2,609.50 per ton. Neil Welsh from Britannia Global Markets noted that copper prices dropped from peaks of $10,130 per ton during yesterday's session amid rumors that the U.S. may impose tariffs on copper imports within a few weeks.

Welsh stated, "Copper prices on the LME declined, and Comex premiums responded by rising, as tariffs could come well ahead of the official 270-day deadline." He highlighted that despite concerns over the U.S. struggling to meet domestic demand, the aggressive approach towards copper tariffs continues, reflecting President Trump's consistent desire to implement these tariffs, making the ongoing investigation by the Department of Commerce seem merely a formality.
