British Steel is considering closing its melting furnaces, putting over 2,000 jobs at risk.

British Steel has announced that it will consult on the potential closure of two blast furnaces and steel production operations, as well as a proposed reduction in capacity at its steel rolling mill in Scunthorpe.

The company noted that the proposed closures are expected to affect employment levels, impacting between 2,000 and 2,700 jobs.
