Minister Kurum: There are 1.5 million houses in Istanbul that need to be transformed
Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum said, "There are 1.5 million houses in Istanbul that need urgent and priority transformation. 20 percent of them are very urgent." Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum answered questions about the agenda on the live broadcast of Habertürk TV. Minister Kurum said, "Our most important agenda right now is our citizens in the earthquake zone. Our priority is to build houses for our citizens in the earthquake zone as soon as possible." Emphasizing that they will implement the new projects as of May 15, Kurum said that they will begin the construction of 100 thousand houses with the participation of President Erdoğan on Thursday. Emphasizing that the 11 provinces affected by the earthquake have different characteristics, Kurum said, "That is why we gave 4 of our provinces to 4 different architects. Green roads and assembly areas will be built there. Our first houses, which we started with the participation of our President during the Eid, will be delivered. We will finish our houses in the villages. These are single-story village houses. For example, an entire village will be finished in time for the Eid. We will deliver them to our citizens as they are finished." he said. Stating that the transformation of 93 thousand houses in 39 districts of Istanbul is continuing, Kurum said, “There are 1.5 million houses in Istanbul that need urgent and priority transformation. 20 percent of them are very urgent.” Minister Kurum said that they will transform 500 thousand of the 1.5 million risky houses in Istanbul where they are and said, “We are planning satellite cities on the Anatolian and European sides for the remaining 500 thousand houses. We will lay the foundations of 10 thousand houses on the 22nd of this month with the presence of our President.”
