Turkey will collaborate with Niger, an African country rich in mineral reserves, on mining exploration and operation.

Memorandum of Understanding Signed
The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, held a meeting in Istanbul with Niger's Minister of Mines, Abarchi Ousmane. Following the meeting, a "Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Mining between the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey and the Ministry of Mines of the Republic of Niger" was signed.

Cooperation to Be Encouraged
The signed memorandum will encourage information exchange, official-level meetings, consultations between relevant ministries and institutions, and cooperation on mutual interests and capacity development projects. Additionally, cooperation activities supporting sustainable development through the mining sectors of both countries will be carried out.

Discussions to Be Held
Turkish public and private sector companies will be encouraged to operate in Niger's mining sector. Discussions and information exchanges on the exploration and operation of mineral resources in specific regions will also be undertaken.

Supporting the Development of Both Countries
In a social media post about the agreement, Bayraktar stated, "With this agreement, we aim for our public and private sector companies to operate in the Niger mining sector, developing cooperation in exploring and operating mineral resources in certain regions. I hope this agreement supports the development of both countries through their mining sectors and proves beneficial for our nations."

Visited Niger in July
Minister Bayraktar had visited Niamey, the capital of Niger, in July. He held meetings with Minister of Mines Ousmane, Minister of Petroleum Mahaman Moustapha Barké, and Minister of Energy Amadou Haoua. Bayraktar later signed a "Declaration of Intent on Cooperation in the Field of Petroleum and Natural Gas."
