The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has released its Motor Vehicles report for September 2024. According to the statistics, 212,451 vehicles were registered last month in Turkey.

The majority of these were motorcycles, comprising 56.8%, followed by automobiles at 29.5%, trucks at 7.9%, and tractors at 2.9%, with the remainder being other types of vehicles. The number of vehicles registered in September increased by 0.5% compared to the previous month.

Minibuses saw the highest monthly increase at 28.4%. Tractor and motorcycle registrations also grew by 5.2% and 4.3%, respectively. However, special-purpose vehicles decreased by 52.4%, buses by 17.1%, and automobiles by 5.3%. There was a decline in trucks and vans as well, by 4.8% and 1.7%, respectively.

Year-on-year, the number of registered vehicles increased by 6.9%, with minibuses recording the highest growth rate at 54.2%. Motorcycle registrations rose by 27.4%, and bus registrations by 16.6%. Conversely, special-purpose vehicles saw a 31.6% decline, tractors fell by 15.9%, and automobiles by 14.9%. Light declines were observed in truck and van registrations.

By the end of September, Turkey had a total of 30,678,293 registered vehicles, with automobiles making up 52%, motorcycles 19.6%, vans 15.2%, and the rest being other types of vehicles.

In terms of vehicle transfers, 992,171 vehicles were transferred in September. Automobiles accounted for 66.4%, vans for 14.8%, and motorcycles for 11.5%. Tractors saw 2.8% of transfers, while minibuses and trucks both accounted for 1.9%.

In September, 62,677 automobiles were registered. Renault led the preferences with a market share of 12%, followed by Fiat at 8.9% and Volkswagen at 6.6%.

During the January-September 2024 period, the number of vehicles registered increased by 13.8% year-on-year to 1,961,456 units. Meanwhile, 22,962 vehicles had their registrations canceled, a 2.1% increase. The overall increase in the number of registered vehicles for the same period was 1,938,494.

Among the automobiles registered, 63.1% were petrol-fueled. Hybrid and diesel cars made up 14.6% and 12.4%, respectively, with electric cars accounting for 8.8%. By the end of September 2024, there were 15,963,660 registered automobiles in Turkey.

Regarding engine capacity and color preferences, 32.6% of the cars registered between January and September had an engine size of 1300 cc or less. Cars with engine capacities between 1401 and 1500 cc were chosen at 22.1%, and those between 1501 and 1600 cc at 12.9%.

Gray was the most preferred car color at 38.7%, followed by white and black at 25.8% and 13%, respectively. Blue accounted for 11.1% and red for 6%. Other colors were chosen at lower rates.
