Headline: ECB/Centeno: Risk Looms Overachieving the Inflation Target

Mario Centeno, a policy maker at the European Central Bank, stated at an event in Washington that the pace at which inflation in the Eurozone is approaching the ECB's 2% target has slowed, and there is currently a risk of it falling below the target, which could hamper growth. Centeno called for a "gradual, steady, and predictable decline in interest rates," suggesting that the rate should be "perhaps 2% or slightly lower." Last Thursday, the ECB cut interest rates for the third time this year, and investors now predict rate cuts in each of the next four or five meetings of the central bank, prompted by signs that inflation might drop faster than previously anticipated as growth in the Eurozone remains weak.
