Retail Prices in Istanbul Increased by 3.64% and Wholesale Prices by 0.15% in October
In October 2024 in Istanbul, the Istanbul Wage Earners' Living Index, an indicator of retail price movements, increased by 3.64% compared to the previous month, while the Wholesale Goods Prices Index, reflecting wholesale price movements, rose by 0.15%.
According to a statement from the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO), the change rates in prices between October 2023 and October 2024 compared to the same month of the previous year were 59.10% for the ITO's Wage Earners' Living Index based on 1995 and 43.07% for the Wholesale Goods Prices Index.
The ITO stated: "In October 2024, compared to the previous month, retail prices saw an increase of; 11.43% in Clothing Expenditures, 5.47% in Other Expenditures, 4.17% in Health and Personal Care Expenditures, 4.06% in Housing Expenditures, 3.40% in Food Expenditures, 1.38% in Household Goods Expenditures, and 1.14% in Culture, Education, and Entertainment Expenditures; while a decrease of -0.62% was observed in Transportation and Communication Expenditures. In October 2024, compared to the previous month, wholesale prices showed an increase of; 4.01% in Construction Materials, 1.49% in Fuel and Energy Materials, 0.07% in Food Items, and 0.04% in Raw Materials; while a decrease of -2.81% was noted in Chemical Materials and -0.03% in Minerals. No price change was observed in the Textiles group."
