US responds to China mediation
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said that China’s stance against the Russian invasion has put the country in an “odd position” in the international arena. The US continues to receive mixed reactions after China assumed the role of mediator in the Russia-Ukraine war. US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated that China’s stance against the Russian invasion has put the country in an “odd position” in the international arena. Sullivan added that any Chinese military aid to Russia would have a “real cost.” Last week, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that his country had strong doubts that China would provide arms assistance to Russia. US President Joe Biden softened his tone somewhat by saying that he did not think China would provide arms assistance to Russia. China, on the other hand, continues to move forward with its mediation plan. Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko, and Putin’s ally, will visit China on Tuesday at the invitation of Xi Jinping.
