China's economic development message to the US
China has sent a message to the U.S. that “economic pressure and restrictions cannot stop our development.” China has sent a message that the U.S.’s efforts to obstruct and restrict technology, especially in chip production, will not stop the country’s development but will, on the contrary, increase its determination to be innovative and self-sufficient. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning evaluated U.S. Semiconductor Industry Association Chairman John Neuffer’s words in an interview with Bloomberg that China is American chip manufacturers’ “largest market” and that the U.S. administration wants to access the market despite national security concerns. Noting that the U.S. has been pushing the boundaries of the concept of national security, abusing export control measures and restricting exports to China in order to maintain its hegemony for some time, Mao said, “Economic pressure and restrictions cannot stop China’s development but will only increase its determination to be innovative and self-sufficient in technology.” Mao emphasized that China is the world's largest semiconductor market, and that severing economic ties, cutting off supply chains, and disrupting the functioning of the market would not be in the interests of either party. Arguing that the US was trying to hinder or restrict not only China but also many developing countries, Mao said, "The US wants to take away the development and technological progress that is the right of developing countries and keep them at the bottom of the industrial chain." Mao pointed out that such selfish and tyrannical practices in the field of science and technology were unfair and inconsistent with economic and trade rules, and argued that destabilizing industrial and supply chains would hinder global economic development and ultimately harm the US. Noting that China was open to common development by sharing opportunities with other countries, Mao also emphasized that they would defend their legitimate rights and interests.
