Asian stock markets mixed

Asian stock markets were mixed as investors weighed U.S. consumer prices and inflation data in China. Asia-Pacific markets were mixed after Wall Street saw a tech rally after the U.S. consumer price index rose less than expected for April. The consumer price index rose 4.9 percent, slightly below the 5 percent increase forecast by economists polled by Dow Jones. Month-on-month inflation rose 0.4 percent, matching expectations. Investors in Asia will be closely watching China’s inflation data for April, which came in slower than expected at 0.1 percent, compared with the 0.4 percent forecast in the survey. In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite Index rose marginally and the Shenzhen Component Index rose 0.12 percent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 0.22 percent, while the Hang Seng Tech Index rose 1.5 percent in early trading. Japan's Nikkei 225 was down 0.15%, while the Topix lost a bigger 0.29%. South Korea's Kospi rose 0.5% and the Kosdaq gained a bigger 0.66%. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.28%.
