Real Madrid lost the 400 million euro 'battle'
Real Madrid has lost a €400m legal dispute with Abu Dhabi fund Mubadala over a sponsorship. Spanish football team Real Madrid has lost a €400m court case with Abu Dhabi investor Mubadala over the sponsorship of its Madrid stadium. According to Reuters, Real Madrid had sought €400m from Mubadala after the Abu Dhabi investor failed to honour a 20-year sponsorship agreement that would see it take over the naming rights to the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. “The arbitration panel, set up under the rules of the Court of International Trade in Paris, ruled in Mubadala’s favour,” a source told Reuters. In 2014, Real signed a strategic partnership agreement with Mubadala to help finance a planned stadium overhaul. The project was intended to add a striking new roof and facade to the existing structure and include a hotel and shopping mall to help boost revenue for the world’s richest club.
