UK Prime Minister warns of artificial intelligence: Urgent action needed

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak pointed out the dangers that artificial intelligence may pose and stated that urgent action must be taken on this issue. Sunak and US President Joe Biden held a joint press conference at the White House after their bilateral talks. Biden stated that they held "important and positive" talks in order to deepen bilateral economic relations and expand cooperation that will shape the future, and said that they discussed cooperation in the fields of technology and economy in a rapidly changing world. Noting that they published the "Atlantic Declaration", which is an economic-based agreement, Biden reported that the agreement focuses on issues such as clean energy, developing technologies that are important for national security, and strengthening the supply chain for critical minerals. Artificial Intelligence Biden said, "We are doing more to prevent technologies invented and developed in our countries from being used for military or intelligence purposes by countries that do not share our values." Explaining that they will also cooperate with the UK on the threats that artificial intelligence may pose, Biden said that he did not think there was a technological change potential as fundamental as that offered by artificial intelligence in human history. Biden stated that the developments in the field of artificial intelligence have a potential that is "extremely surprising" and close to science fiction. Arguing that his own economic programs and investments would also benefit his allies, Biden, on the other hand, argued that China’s Belt and Road Initiative had turned into a “debt and confiscation program.” Sunak: National security is the priority Stating that they are facing new challenges as two countries, Sunak noted that their highest priority is “national security”. Emphasizing the importance of economic security, Sunak said, “Countries like China and Russia are willing to manipulate and exploit our (trade) openness, steal our intellectual property, use technology for authoritarian purposes or withdraw important resources like energy. They will not be successful.” The subject of artificial intelligence Speaking about the economic contributions that the Atlantic Declaration agreement they announced today will offer, Sunak touched on the subject of artificial intelligence and stated that the UK will host the first global summit on artificial intelligence security. Stating that artificial intelligence can offer opportunities in terms of society and economy, Sunak said, “However, it is also clear that it creates very real risks that we as leaders must be aware of and take the necessary measures to mitigate the risks.” Sunak pointed to the pace of technological change and stressed that addressing the issue of artificial intelligence was urgent. Support for Ukraine will continue Sunak said that they were proud to support Ukraine and that Russian President Vladimir Putin was wrong to think that the alliance would give up. "We are not going anywhere. We will be here as long as it takes," Sunak said, emphasizing that they will continue to support Ukraine.
