New formula for earthquake housing from Minister Özhaseki
Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Mehmet Özhaseki stated that they are working on various formulas to accelerate the construction of earthquake victim housing and that they will present these to President Erdoğan at the cabinet meeting. Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Mehmet Özhaseki made statements regarding the construction of permanent housing in the earthquake zone. In his written statement, Özhaseki emphasized that the construction of temporary shelters and workplaces continues in 11 cities affected by the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş on February 6, while the construction of permanent housing continues rapidly. Özhaseki, who drew attention to the fact that 14 million people were affected by the earthquake, noted the following: "We have around 100 districts, nearly 1000 villages and the number of collapsed buildings, I got the figures again yesterday because there are objections, there are court decisions, they can change from time to time, 680 thousand houses were destroyed. 170 thousand workplaces, warehouses, barns, single-storey village houses were destroyed. In other words, there are 850 thousand houses and workplaces that we have to build. We will also build the infrastructure for these. The material damage of all of these is around 100 billion dollars. Some of the people are in tents, some are in container cities. Naturally, they want to get out of there as soon as possible. They say, 'build our houses quickly, give them back.' These will be done, there is no solution." Özhaseki stated that they will overcome this burden and provided the following information: "Our disaster housing is rising rapidly in 11 provinces affected by the earthquake. Hopefully, as we promised, we will complete more than 300 thousand houses within a year, and after that, all the other houses in 1.5 and 2 years and bring everyone back to their homes. There are new formulas we are working on for the earthquake zone, I will present them to our President in our cabinet meeting. When those formulas come into effect, we will finish the houses of our earthquake victimized brothers and sisters in a much shorter time. We will bring back safe and sound houses without victimizing any of our citizens."
