Asian stocks mostly down after Wall Street rally

Asian stocks fell broadly on Wednesday as Wall Street’s rally cooled from last week. Asia-Pacific stocks fell broadly on Wednesday, mirroring the moves on Wall Street as stocks returned from the Juneteenth holiday to trade lower on Tuesday. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 was the only major index in the green, with the Topix advancing 0.15 percent and 0.24 percent, reversing earlier losses. The Bank of Japan is due to release the minutes of its first meeting on April 27-28, the first chaired by new BOJ Governor Kazuo Ueda. In Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.25 percent, on pace to snap a seven-day winning streak. In South Korea, the Kospi fell 0.57 percent and the Kosdaq fell 0.45 percent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng led losses in the region, falling 1.36 percent at the open. Mainland Chinese markets also fell, with the Shanghai Composite Index down 0.26 percent and the Shenzhen Component Index seeing a bigger loss of 0.75 percent
