Japan's economy grew less than expected in the second quarter
Japan's second-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) rose by 4.8 percent in the quarter, below expectations. Japan's second-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) expanded by a less-than-expected 4.8 percent annually from the previous quarter. That was below the 6 percent growth reported in August and the 5.5 percent growth economists had expected. On a quarterly basis, GDP in the second quarter rose by 1.2 percent, compared with a preliminary 1.5 percent increase and slightly below economists' expectations of 1.3 percent.
