Speaker of the US House of Representatives Calls for Investigation into Biden
US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has called for an investigation into President Joe Biden for abuse of power. Announcing the decision at a press conference, McCarthy stated that Republicans in the House of Representatives had made “serious and credible” allegations against Biden and that the impeachment investigation would be conducted by James Comer, Chairman of the US House Oversight and Accountability Committee. Stating that he did not make the decision lightly and that it was not related to his party, Republican McCarthy said, “I am calling on the House Committee to open a formal impeachment investigation into President Biden for abuse of power.” McCarthy alleged that Biden abused his office during his Vice Presidentship and that on this occasion, his son Hunter Biden used his father’s position to gain privilege in business relationships. Arguing that Biden’s family was given “special treatment” during his presidency, McCarthy said, “The American people need to know that public office is not for sale.” McCarthy noted that the evidence obtained will determine the process.
