Germany to allocate 2% of GDP to defense
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has stated that despite her country's current budget crisis, it will allocate two percent of its gross domestic product (GDP) to defense spending in 2024. In a statement on the X social media platform, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock pointed out that over the past two years, they have dramatically seen that peace, freedom, and security need to be defended again and again, even in Europe, and said, "In times like these, we must strengthen our NATO defense shield together." Minister Baerbock said, "It is also important that we invest in our alliance together. Germany will spend two percent of its GDP on defense in 2024." Noting that they are doing everything to ensure that Ukraine can liberate as many villages and towns as possible next year, Baerbock said, "No matter how difficult, how tiring, how deadlocked the situation may seem, we will support Ukraine as long as it needs us."
