It was reported that Azerbaijani border guards thwarted an armed drug smuggling attempt on the country's border with Iran, seizing dozens of kilograms of cannabis and engaging in a clash with the suspects. Video footage obtained by AnewZ shows officials monitoring three unidentified individuals crossing illegally from Iran into Azerbaijan. Meanwhile, the border post is put on alert, and the three individuals are ordered to stop while warning shots are fired. It is stated that the suspects did not heed the warnings and fired back at the border guards. According to the Azerbaijani Border Services, the border guards responded to this move with gunfire. One of the suspects was killed, one was captured, but the third fled back across the Iranian border. A search of the area found a rifle, a night vision device, empty cartridges, and three large packages containing a total of 32.4 kilograms of cannabis. The Border Services announced that they have initiated an investigation into the incident and informed the Iranian border authorities.
