A human trafficking organization that smuggled migrants into the EU has been dismantled in Spain.
It has been reported that the organization flew Moroccan migrants, who paid 3,000 euros each, to Romania before taking them to Spain by truck or minibus.
Government officials announced on Sunday that a human trafficking organization that smuggled Moroccan migrants to Spain and other European Union (EU) countries had been dismantled in southern Spain. Spanish officials claim that the organization contacted Moroccan citizens who wanted to migrate to Spain and flew them to Romania. According to the allegations, after reaching Romania, the migrants were also crossing into Spain by road via other EU countries in trucks or minibuses. In a statement by the Spanish Civil Guard, it was noted that the organization had made more than 50 trips to Spain over a two-year period, with groups of 20 to 50 migrants paying 3,000 euros each. Recently, four individuals were detained in a raid in the city of Cartagena in the Murcia region, accused of being part of a criminal organization and of human trafficking. It was alleged that the organization's logistical center was in Romania, and that the gang leader established the prices and travel logistics for the migrants by connecting members in Spain, Morocco, and Romania. It was reported that those detained used service vehicles to mislead the police and smuggled migrants through border crossings with weak surveillance. The operation against the organization was carried out in coordination with Europol and Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency.
