The data pointed to the highest increase of the year in white goods domestic sales. In Turkey, domestic sales of white goods in six main products decreased by 4 percent in January-October compared to the same period of the previous year, falling to 7.3 million units. According to data announced by the Turkish White Goods Manufacturers Association (TURKBESD), domestic sales increased by 9 percent in October, reaching 596,766. While exports remained unchanged both monthly and annually in October, they were 2 million 473 thousand 102 units per month, while 10-month exports were realized as 21 million 498 thousand. Production in the six main product groups increased by 5 percent in October, and decreased by 1 percent in the first 10 months of the year, reaching 24 million 234 thousand 942 units. TÜRKBESD President Can Dinçer, who stated that the data showed that the sector's export and domestic sales figures continued to recover after the decline in the first six months of the year, said in his assessment of the data, "The decrease in demand due to economic developments in Europe makes developments that may affect our competitive power even more important for our sector, which carries out 62 percent of its total exports to European countries. It is important to re-evaluate the protectionist measures that create a cost burden for our sector, which is the locomotive in exports."
