US President Donald Trump has ordered oil magnate Harry Sargeant, one of the Republican Party’s largest donors, to withdraw his company from Venezuela. Sargeant was working behind the scenes to ease hostilities between the US and Venezuela. According to the WSJ, Sargeant's Global Oil Terminals has become the second US oil company to lose its operating authority in Venezuela, following a similar notification sent to Chevron last month. Both companies have until May 27 to cease their operations.

The report states that Sargeant flew to Caracas, Venezuela’s capital, the day after playing golf at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club. He has also assisted in brokering agreements aimed at deepening US commercial engagement in Venezuela, a country that holds some of the world’s largest oil and gas reserves. The Treasury Department has indicated that all payments to Venezuelan entities must be completed by Wednesday.
