Second increase in tea prices in a month
Following the 43 percent increase in prices at the beginning of June, tea prices have increased again. Çaykur has increased the price of dry tea by 9.5 percent. Following the 43 percent increase in prices of tea at the beginning of June, another increase came in July. Çaykur has increased the price of tea by an average of 9.5 percent again. Thus, a total of 56.6 percent has been increased in dry tea prices since June 8. New price lists have begun to be sent to wholesale companies. As it will be recalled, prior to the election, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced the purchasing price of fresh tea at a rally he held in Rize on May 3. President Erdoğan said, “As you know, last year, with the support payment, we purchased fresh tea for 7 liras per kilo. He had made the following statement: "With the support payment for this year, we are increasing the purchase price of fresh tea by 64 percent per kilo to 11 lira 30 cents." Following these statements, dry tea prices increased one after another. Following the 43 percent increase in June, sector stakeholders who provided information to Bloomberg HT claimed that Çaykur could increase tea prices by another 10-15 percent in the coming months. After 5 weeks, tea was increased for the second time.
